Twelve Angry Men
Campaign Visual Direction
Overview
A full campaign visual system developed for a theatre production by Nine Years Theatre in collaboration with Esplanade.
The project covered creative direction, art direction, design, photography, and title calligraphy, alongside the planning of a staged campaign rollout.
The Challenge
To create a cohesive and distinctive campaign for a production with a 12-member cast, while ensuring clarity, focus, and visual impact across all materials.
The campaign also needed to reintroduce the production after a 12-year absence, building anticipation while engaging both new audiences and existing followers.
Approach
The campaign was structured in phases to build momentum and engagement:
- Teaser Phase
A pre-launch visual to signal the return of the production after 12 years - Character Series
A set of character-led visuals to introduce individual cast members and engage their respective audiences - Key Visual
A final, unified image featuring the full cast, designed to anchor the campaign with clarity and impact
This staged approach allowed the campaign to transition from intrigue to familiarity, and finally to a strong collective identity.
Concept
The visual language draws from the idea of judgement under tension. A fragmented interpretation of Lady Justice reflects the fractured perspectives within the jury, while a recurring red line introduces a sense of division, conflict, and psychological pressure.
These elements create a system that is both symbolic and flexible, allowing the campaign to maintain a consistent identity across teaser, character, and key visuals.
Execution
The project was executed end-to-end, ensuring consistency across all touchpoints:
- Creative direction and campaign strategy
- Art direction and visual system development
- Photography and image production
- Title calligraphy integration
- Design adaptation across formats
The visuals were deployed across digital and physical platforms, including social media, editorial content, and outdoor placements such as SMRT stations and tunnel lightboxes.
Outcome
The campaign achieved strong audience engagement and visibility:
- Most shows were fully sold out
- Strong traction across social and media platforms
- Clear and recognisable visual identity throughout the campaign lifecycle
